ABOUT

My grandmother Sitty Misada could not read but she knew the value of education. Even though money was hard to come by, she made sure to hire a tutor in the summers so that my mom and her siblings could get a head start in school. I started the Misada Family Literacy Organization in honor of my grandmother. Her struggles, her perseverance and her belief that education is empowering will live on, inshaaAllah through her grandchildren, great grandchildren and inshaaAllah the Misada Family Literacy Organization. This organization will serve as a liaison between the Muslim community in Cleveland and the various local literacy programs.

The Inspiration

Born, lived and died in El Bireh, Palestine. Mother of five, grandmother and great-grandmother. Witnessed the land of Palestine from freedom to occupation. She never complained about the hardships of her life. She had the cutest voice and the most beautiful blue eyes. May she rest in peace, ameen.
